SEA TO SUMMIT
Roland Tyson, at 17, began producing outdoor gear on an old industrial sewing machine in his boyhood bedroom in 1983. Roland understood as a young outdoor enthusiast that he had a love and skill for designing cutting-edge outdoor equipment. He soon found himself inventing and producing equipment for other Australian explorers. Sea to Summit was founded in 1991, following equipping an unprecedented first climb of Mt. Everest (a 1126+ kilometer, 8848 meter elevation trip from sea level to a solo summit).
Roland's desire to create the greatest, lightest, and most durable equipment would lead him deeper into the lonely Australian outback and, finally, the Himalayas. He could put his innovations to the ultimate test in these untamed locations.
Roland was joined in 1993 by Penny Sanderson, who had previously worked at Australian Geographic for six years. Her enthusiasm for adventure and invention was an ideal match for Sea to Summit. She and Roland began traveling for many months each year, climbing, sailing, hiking, overlanding, and bicycling. They tested items and iterated design wherever they went.
Penny and Roland's passion of travel and design served as the foundation for Sea to Summit's rapid growth into a successful global brand. They own and run Sea to Summit together, and they continue to be involved in every stage of the process, from developing raw materials to placing refined gear into the hands of clients all around the world.
SLEEPING MATS
Sleep is one of the fundamental human needs and unfortunately, the lack of a mattress in outdoor overnight stays can destroy it.
For this reason, Sea To Summit, has spent time to use its experience and passion to create a better substrate that can offer a quality sleep, on par with spring mattresses; which at the same time, will be lightweight, durable and packed in a small package, but without compromising comfort for the benefit of other goals.
The new range of self-inflating mattresses offer a comfortable sleeping experience for outdoor travellers. From the traveller who tries to carry as little weight as possible, to those who want luxury and don't mind the extra weight and size, the expanded range of mattresses offers a solution for everyone.
It's no coincidence, after all, that Sea To Summit's underlays have won numerous awards in the US and Germany, even before they are in stores!
