MEINDL
MEINDL (www.meindl.de/english/) is Europe's oldest (producing shoes for 300 years) and largest climbing and trekking footwear firm, with an annual production of more than 1.500.000 shoes. The management and manufacturing facilities are in Germany, especially in Kirchanschoring, on the Austrian border 25 kilometers outside Salzburg. It employs more than 400 people, all of whom are experts in the craft of handmade shoes, 50 of whom have been with the firm for 30 years. The Meindl family has been making handcrafted shoes for 300 years, and the secrets of their trade have been passed down from grandpa to grandson.

The use of GORE-TEX
MEINDL is the world's first business to explore with and finally deploy GORE-TEX technology in shoes. And maybe the only one who has created shoes that are 100% waterproof from leather or fabric while still allowing the foot to breathe.
So, what exactly is GORE-TEX?
GORE-TEX is a fabric membrane that allows air to move through while simultaneously preventing water from getting through.
As can be seen, such a high-tech material is exceedingly expensive, which is why those who have attempted to reproduce or imitate it with anything less expensive have failed miserably.
The GORE firm, to which GORE-TEX belongs, is now an international conglomerate. To honor MEINDL for its valuable involvement and major contribution to the successful use of GORE-TEX technology in shoes, it advertises its material in a prospectus with the ISLAND, a MEINDL shoe known for its quality of construction.
